Sint Maarten/ Saint Martin is known for lovely white sandy beaches, blue turquoise waters, beach bars and watersports too numerous to mention. This article is basically for the newcomers. Seasoned visitors who consider St. Maarten your home away from hone, would have most likely discovered many other faves. In my next article, I will be sure to cover the top five beaches for the seasoned visitor! But for now, here are our picks for the top five Beaches on our friendly island for first timers:
Number 5: Philipsburg Beach!
Located on the Dutch side of the island and right in the
middle of the town- Philipsburg! Literally close to everything; Hotels, countless restaurants,
souvenir shops, malls, jewelry shops, church, cruise port and so much more. Plus it’s just
20mins from the Princess Julianna International Airport! The turquoise water, warm and calm is
something any vacationer would enjoy. You can often find local people right on the beach selling
towels, handmade jewelry, wraps and beach wear. You can even get a massage or have your
hair braided for a small fee. This beach is really the best of both worlds! Paradise in the midst of
a busy town
Number 4: Le Galion Beach!
Also known as “Baby Beach”. Any child, even a 2yr old can enjoy the calm
clear and shallow waters which is surrounded by a coral reef that serves as protection from the
Atlantic ocean crashing waves. You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas at a fair price. You can
also find a few beach restaurants and water sports shops. The food is inexpensive and very
tasty. If you are looking for some place low-key and calm, then Le Galion is the place to be.
Number 3: Grand Case Beach!
Grand Case Beach located on the French Side of the
island is a curve of a very pretty, white sandy beach with usually calm waters. The beach is
awesome for swimming and has some nice snorkeling spots towards either end of the beach.
There are lots of restaurants and beach bars alongside the beach so one can never be hungry
while enjoying this beautiful beach. Also The bay has a wonderful view of neighboring island
Number 2: Mullet Bay Beach!
Located on the Dutch Side of the island. One of the largest
and prettiest white sand beaches on SXM. It is a long stretched curve of awesomeness. Perfect
spot for picnics as there is a lot of shade from the backdrop of sea grapes trees. It is close to the
hotels and condos in Maho and Cupecoy so visitors can enjoy without having to go too far. With
Ample parking, many tourists and locals alike flood this beach on a daily. The water is calm at
times and sometimes surfers have a blast at the huge waves
Number 1: Maho Beach!!!
Also located on the Dutch Side of Sint. Maarten. The waters can range
from calm to rough depending on the time of year. The busiest and most crowded beach on the
entire island! You can capture amazing pictures and videos while on this beach. From small
aircrafts to big jets taking off and landing just few a few feet from the beach and over your head,
many visitors find this somewhat thrilling! The adrenaline rush you get when Jet Blasted is oh so
super! Maho beach is 2 minutes from the Princess Julianna International Airport Terminal and is
in the center of multiple resorts, casinos and restaurants. This is a must see while on Sint.
